Michael Mattson was born in Pennsylvania and raised in Plantation, Florida. He is a graduate of Dickinson College and graduated from the University of Miami, School of Law, in 1980. For thirty-six (36) years, Michael has been representing clients in broad ranges of contested disputes involving insurance defense, product liability and many other different litigation claims. After leaving the Fort Lauderdale law firm of Conrad Scherer & James in 1992, Michael became a founding member and shareholder in the law firm of Cooney, Haliczer, Mattson, Lance, Blackburn, Pettis & Richards, P.A., which in 1996, became Cooney, Mattson, Lance, Blackburn, Richards & O’Connor, P.A. After the firm’s dissolution in December of 2009, Michael became a partner of Boyd Richards Parker & Colonnelli, P.L. in January of 2010.

Currently, Michael represents various insurance companies, their insureds, medical providers, pharmaceutical manufacturers, entertainment and gaming companies, asbestos manufactures and rental car companies. Michael’s representative clients include: Enterprise Leasing Company, Carver Pump, Boyd Gaming/Dania Jai-Alai, Mt. Hawley Insurance Company/RLI, and Travelers Insurance Company. He has also represented governmental entities such as the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), School Boards, Charter Schools, and Department of Children and Family Services entities. While Michael devotes the majority of his practice to the defense of insurance companies and their insureds, a small percentage of his practice is spent representing Plaintiffs.



Michael is a member of the Florida Bar and is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. Michael is a charter member of the Fort Lauderdale Chapter of the American Board of Trial Attorneys (ABOTA). He is also a member of the Dade County Bar Association, American Bar Association, Florida Defense Lawyer Association, and the Defense Research Institute. Michael is Martindale-Hubbell AV-rated.
