Job Description
A civil defense law firm located in downtown Miami is seeking a experienced and professional full-time litigation Legal Assistant with a minimum of 5 years experience working in a defense law firm. Candidate must be highly organized with strong communication skills and fully computer literate.
The candidate MUST be proficient in Word/Outlook and Excel and able to communicate effectively and professionally with clients, other attorneys and staff. The candidate must also be capable of typing/preparing pleadings, correspondence and other documents.
Excellent organizational skills is a must to file, scan, keep client files up to date, schedule meetings, depositions, mediations, AND maintain the attorney’s calendar. The person in this position may also be assigned other administrative/clerical duties. A qualified applicant MUST be punctual and interested in a stable long term position. Hours for this position are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Candidate must be able to work independently and comply with all law firm policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Managing files for litigation matters
- Preparing pleadings, discovery demands, discovery responses and other litigation documents at the request of the attorney
- Preparation of materials for depositions, hearings, mediations, and trials to assist attorneys
- Ability to prioritize work load based on deadlines
- Communicate with attorneys to assist in all aspect of litigation
Requirements:
- Transcription experience
- Personal Injury experience
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to interact with attorneys, paralegals, and other office staff in a professional manner
- Ability to interact with Court personnel, opposing counsel, and clients in a professional manner
- Must be detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
- Must be able to work as part of a team or individually
- Willingness to complete assigned tasks in a timely fashion
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Knowledge of ProLaw a plus
Qualifications:
- Advanced knowledge and successful experience in managing a full case load from inception to post-trial
- A self-starter with excellent verbal and written skills
