Background

A native of Palm Beach County, Michael Walker Shiver, Jr. is a partner at Boyd Richards Parker & Colonnelli, P.L. and is based in the West Palm Beach office. Mr. Shiver has dedicated his career to litigation and trial practice, with a special emphasis on general liability, premises liability, automobile and trucking litigation, including personal injury and wrongful death claims. He is also experienced in the areas of errors & omissions (E&O), corporate governance, professional negligence, and construction defect claims.

In his 20+ year career, Mr. Shiver has served his clients with two of Florida’s other premier insurance defense firms, as well as seven years as a Plaintiff personal injury attorney. This experience gives Mr. Shiver special insight into the “tricks of the trade” of the Plaintiff’s bar, and a unique understanding of their case evaluation and decision-making processes. His clients find this perspective invaluable in their evaluation and handling of Plaintiff claims, as Mr. Shiver can speak with experience regarding the specific challenges confronting personal injury claimants and counsel, which helps maximize the likelihood of favorable resolution. Should trial be inevitable, Mr. Shiver is also a devoted student of trial advocacy and its unique challenges, including his previous immersion in the “Reptile Method” utilized by a growing number of Plaintiff’s trial lawyers.

Mr. Shiver holds an “AV” rating with Martindale-Hubble (the highest ranking available), as a testament to both his professional skill and his devotion to the highest ethical standards in the practice of law. In addition to his practice, Mr. Shiver devotes his time to the Boy Scouts of America, serving as a volunteer and Assistant Scout Leader, and pursues his artistic passions as a musician/composer, as well as designing and building custom furniture.

Education/Admissions

Mr. Shiver attended the University of Florida for both his undergraduate and legal education. He received his juris doctorate, with honors, in 2002. After law school, he practiced briefly in New York before returning to Palm Beach County. He has been a member in good standing of the New York Bar since 2003 and of the Florida Bar since 2006.
